Poke Greens from the vacant lot

I went cruising for poke greens yesterday in the alley behind my house and hit pay dirt.  I will be making Thai Basil and Poke Green soup for tonight's supper.  I made eggless tofu poke quiche last night.  Delish!  

Grilled Cheese and Chickweed Sandwhich

Wanting a little taste of Spring in my sandwich, I added a little chickweed.  It is winter here but I have some garden beds that I have covered with glass so that I can grow lettuce, spinach and cilantro throughout the winter.  Along with them grows nettles and chickweed. Now my relatively healthy sandwich just got healthier.

Claire Goes Foraging

The book is written so that children can learn several common plants easily found in places that are allowed to be wild, even in your own back yard or garden.  

I included some of Claire's scrap book pages about plant identification and the recipe that she and Celeste chose to make for their evening meal on the day they foraged for food.  

It also includes vitamin/mineral information that Claire finds on the internet.  

The book encourages parents and children to do more research and of course, to eat the weeds :-)
